Story & Activities

Pauline Roche is an award-winning producer, journalist, broker, and super networker with a deep commitment to eliminating racism and tackling inequality. Alongside her work to increase the digital and data literacy of small organisations in the VCFSE sectors, she consistently champions equity and inclusion across all aspects of her work.

She produces and co-presents the weekly Dr Tech Show on YouTube, regularly providing a platform for people targeted by racism to share their work and highlight the needs of their communities. Pauline is also a co-organiser of the annual national Open Data Camp unconference, where she advocates for the opening up of public data to improve decision-making. As part of a diverse volunteer team, she actively works to increase representation in the open data ecosystem, particularly for people of colour.

Within the UK tech for social good ecosystem, Pauline is a committed voice for raising awareness of structural gaps, including those caused by racism. She also supports the West Midlands Funders Network as one of their Ambassadors, having previously served as a Trustee and Chair of the Board. In that role, she worked with the Secretary to deliver a broad programme of events for funder members, frequently addressing issues of inequality, and championed efforts to build a more diverse membership beyond traditional funder representation.

When asked about the importance of anti-racism, Pauline says:

“Being anti-racist makes the world a better place for all of us. I think a lot of people believe that anti-racism is only for Black and Brown people. It’s not — it’s for all of us.”
