Dr Nathaniel Adam Tobias Coleman is an historian of abolitionist ideas, currently Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham and Reparation Coordinator for Quakers in Britain. Their recent work includes “Make Slavery Great Again” and “Undoing 2007; Preparing for 2038”. Their research-informed public engagement is the basis of their forthcoming book, The House by The Rivers Of Blood: Birmingham’s Hidden History of British Anti-Slavery, in which they reimagine the story we should teach the children, of how we got free—if we got free.
When asked about how to approach anti-racism, Nathanial Tobias says:
“When we are naming what we’re against, we need to name something that’s not general like racism; we need to name something specific, like global white supremacy.”
