Story & Activities

Ammo Talwar is a dynamic global leader whose career bridges the worlds of creativity, commerce, and community. He is a respected and influential figure in the UK’s cultural and creative sectors, known for connecting artistic innovation with strategic vision. As the founder and CEO of PUNCH, he has transformed a grassroots cultural platform into an award-winning creative industries powerhouse, acclaimed for its cross-sector impact in both local and international arenas.

At the core of his leadership is a rare blend of entrepreneurial drive, cultural fluency, and executive foresight, qualities that have positioned him as a trusted advisor and collaborator to global institutions. Under his leadership, PUNCH has partnered with major institutions, including Google, Coca-Cola, British Council, Arts Council England, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games, maintaining a strong focus on equity, community, and creativity.

Born in Birmingham to immigrant parents, Ammo’s leadership journey began not in a boardroom but on a football pitch, where he first learned the power of empathy, teamwork, and strategy. From selling vinyl out of a local record store to building multi-million-pound partnerships, his story is one of grassroots innovation meeting global ambition. His early experiences instilled in him a deep understanding of the value of community, talent, and independence. Today, Ammo is recognised not just as a pioneer in the music industry but also as a visionary cultural strategist who uses creativity as a tool to drive economic growth, social change, and inclusive opportunity. Employing these roots, he has developed a career that spans music, education, policy, and social change, underpinned by a belief in long-term partnerships and sustainable impact.

A strategic negotiator and advocate for change, Ammo has brokered significant investment deals and built influential alliances across sectors, from the UK’s unions, trade bodies, Government departments, and local authorities to global brands. His work consistently employs creativity as a tool to open up opportunities, strengthen communities, and drive inclusive economic growth.

As the current Chair of UK Music’s Diversity Taskforce, he is leading national efforts to improve representation across the industry. In this role, he developed the game-changing and widely adopted Ten Point Plan ( ukmusic.org/equality-diversity/ten-point-plan). He is also a member of the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) Council Board and advises regional and national leadership bodies on culture, education, and civic inclusion, championing community-driven cultural investment.

His leadership approach is grounded in values and driven by outcomes, extending beyond the creative industries. Whether stabilising one of the UK’s most challenged school trusts at the heart of the so-called “Trojan Horse crisis”, advocating for inclusive cultural policy, or creating sustainable platforms for underrepresented talent, he is dedicated to unlocking potential, wherever it lies.

An alumnus of the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford and Operation Black Vote’s Leadership Programme, Ammo combines executive insight with lived experience. Whether on stage, in the boardroom, or on the ground, he remains focused on unlocking potential, building a more equitable creative future that is locally grounded, globally relevant, and driven by purpose.

When asked about the role of youth in anti-racism, Ammo says:
