Salman Mirza is an immigration adviser and community activist based in the UK, currently working at Brushstrokes Community Project, where he supports refugees and asylum seekers through legal advice and grassroots campaigning. With over 30 years of experience as a trade unionist and activist, Mirza is widely recognised for his anti-deportation work, advocating for the right to remain in the UK and promoting the dignity and rights of migrants.
At Brushstrokes, he practices immigration and asylum law, while also leading high-profile campaigns to halt deportations and challenge unjust immigration policies. A regular media spokesperson, Mirza has appeared on BBC Radio West Midlands and contributed to platforms such as Migrant Voice, where he challenges negative narratives and highlights the positive contributions of refugees to UK society.
Beyond legal and advocacy work, Mirza has initiated community-building projects, including efforts where refugees repair and donate bicycles to low-income individuals, fostering solidarity and practical support at the grassroots level.
When asked about the meaning of anti-racism, Salam says:
“Anti-racism is uniting with everybody, Black, White, and resisting discrimination. Ultimately, racism is a form of bullying, and I don’t like bullies.”
